Virginia Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau

March 25, 2022

Dear Valued Tourism Industry Partners,

It was fantastic seeing so many of you over the exciting Shamrock Weekend as we celebrated the 50th anniversary run of this beloved event. The weather Saturday was gorgeous and the overcast skies on Sunday made for perfect running conditions. It was great having both Governor Youngkin and Attorney General Miyares stop in from Richmond over the weekend to say “hello.” I think the most exciting part for me was watching all the kids and families participating in the Leprechaun Dash and the Final Mile. I see these groups as our “legacy visitors” in the making!

All the way around, it was an amazing weekend and I would like to thank everyone involved across the city who helped make it great!

Opportunities to Highlight Virginia Beach & Tourism Successes
This has been a huge week for the CVB in getting the word out about some of the great work being done here and across the city as a whole. At Tuesday’s City Council’s workshop, my team and I had the opportunity to provide an overview of the recently launched Spring/Summer leisure marketing campaign. The “Open Invitation” campaign invites guests to experience our city as our locals do. Many local guides are featured throughout the campaign, which is now running in cities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Washington, DC. While the ads may be running out-of-market, meaning you’re not likely to see them here in VB, please feel free to check out some of the campaign work via our campaign microsite.

Following the meeting, we worked with the City’s Communication Office to distribute a high-profile, very positive press release highlighting many of our accomplishments as we enter the fourth quarter of the 2021/22 fiscal year. Here’s an excerpt:

Virginia Beach has been recognized for its Boardwalk, culinary & arts scene and as an overall top beach destination for travelers. Its innovative tourism marketing campaign and designation as the nation’s safest large city also were recognized with awards this fiscal year:

You can read the release in its entirety here

Finally, a shout out to Reporter Stacey Parker for the following article which ran online following our Council presentation and again in print on Wednesday’s front page of The Virginian-Pilot:  Virginia Beach to tourists this year: You have an ‘open invitation’ to visit - The Virginian-Pilot (pilotonline.com)
