May is a month filled with exciting events that are sure to keep you entertained. From music and food festivals to sporting events and cultural celebrations, there's something for everyone in Neptune City. Here are a few of the must-see events happening in Virginia Beach in May 2023:

Atlantic Coast Kite Festival

May 6-7, On the beach from 16th-18th Streets

The Atlantic Coast Kite Festival is a visual spectacle that mesmerizes kite enthusiasts and spectators of all ages. This beloved event offers an array of activities that cater to all levels of kite aficionados. Festival-goers are encouraged to participate in the "Best Kite Contest," where they can showcase their kite-making or purchasing skills and fly their kites at the festival. The contest comprises two parts: the kite's appearance and construction and the participant's ability to fly it. Participants are required to consecutively fly their kites in the air for five minutes at 100 feet. The kite will be evaluated based on its Flight, Structural Design, Craftsmanship, and Visual Appeal. The contest features three competitive divisions: Master, Novice, and Youth (ages 7-14), with trophies awarded for all divisions.

Virginia International PANFest

May 12-13, 24th Street Stage

Steel drums are the soundtrack of beaches the world over. The unique sound produced by these instruments creates a festive and lively atmosphere perfect for relaxing in the sun. This May, steel orchestras from around the world will travel to Virginia for the annual Virginia International PANFest competition. Free and open to the public, the event celebrates this incredible art form while honoring talented international musicians. Grab a cocktail and get ready to dance!

Beach Music Weekend

May 12-13, 30th Street Stage

Beach Music Weekend is a nostalgic celebration of the hot tunes and cool times of yesteryear, featuring top Beach Music bands from across the East Coast. This two-day ticketed event includes evening concerts on Friday and a full day of entertainment on Saturday. Those looking to fully immerse themselves in the festival can purchase a General Admission weekend pass in advance. In addition to the music, the festival offers a variety of food trucks, boardwalk sponsors, and vendors overlooking the beach, creating a fun-filled atmosphere that lures visitors from the boardwalk into the sun and excitement.

Pungo Offroad Monsters on the Beach

May 19-20, 6th Street Stage

Pungo Offroad Monsters on the Beach is a family-friendly event that brings thrills and excitement to the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Monster Trucks battle for sand domination on a race and stunt course built right on the beach at 6th Street, with bleachers overlooking the boardwalk. Sand dune ramps and junk cars add to the fun, making the racecourse fast and exhilarating for drivers and spectators alike.

Memorial Day Weekend Salute To Summer

May 26-28, 17th and 24th Street Parks

Enjoy the cool sounds of summer as the season of sun and fun kicks off on Memorial Day Weekend! Free concerts at 17th Street Park, 24th Street Park, and 31st Street Park feature local bands representing different genres and musical styles.
