Dear Valued Tourism Industry Partners,
Yesterday, Governor Ralph Northam announced that sports and entertainment venues in Virginia may begin to operate with expanded capacity, and social gathering limits will increase beginning Saturday, May 15th. The announcement comes as vaccinations continue to rise in Virginia, and more than half of all adults have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. While mask-wearing and social distancing remain mandated, there is more good news. If all goes as planned, the state hopes to make additional key changes in about three weeks to further loosen restrictions for social gatherings, entertainment venues, recreational sporting events, and alcohol sales. This is all great news, as we move down the road to recovery. For the full details of the current and proposed changes, click here.
If you participated in yesterday’s virtual job fair which the CVB was excited to sponsor, I hope you found potential new staff members to add to teams to help host our visitors this season
This weekend we’ll host the Big Shots Basketball Tournament at the Sports Center and football return to the Princess Ann Athletic Complex with the NLG-Virginia Beach 7v7 Tournament. These two events are expected to bring 2,400 athletes and their families to our coastal city. Sports events often lead to vacations and visits so it's very exciting to have these events at this critical time in our business.
Happy Mother’s Day to all those who may be celebrating this weekend, and I hope everyone has a great week.
Sincerely,
Nancy Helman
CVB Interim Director
