Dear Valued Industry Partners,
I know everyone in our industry has been hard at work during some unrelenting challenges this summer. I hope you’ll be uplifted by the following research reflecting local tourism numbers for the week of Aug. 8 - 14. According to Smith Travel Research (STR), Virginia Beach was the only market out of a field of 25 to show an increase in hotel occupancy when compared to 2019! In addition, we ranked No. 1 in both our regional and destination competitive sets and for the fifth straight weekend, hotel occupancy on both Friday and Saturday night occupancy rose above 90 percent. We are also leading in occupancy by double digits over destinations like NYC, Dallas, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, and Washington, DC. This data tells the story of the resilience the local industry has shown and I applaud each and every one of you.
Hats off to the Town Center team for a terrific showing last weekend at their Open House event. Despite the high temps, there was a fun energy buzzing around every block and the day was a huge success. Congratulations!
