June 24, 2022,

Dear Valued Tourism Industry Partners,

Last week I mentioned what a fantastic entertainment lineup we've developed for this season and how proud we are of the diversity of the many acts, performances and shows we’ve set in place this year. Whether the backdrop is the sound of ocean waves or the view of a beautiful uptown skyline, there are endless ways to experience Virginia Beach. Just this week was the exciting announcement of yet another family-friendly attraction coming soon; read on for more on that and some other great industry news.

The Jurassic Encounter - Feel the Roar! - A yet-to-be announced summer attraction called the “The Jurassic Encounter,” created by local residents Alfred and Cheri Garr, is scheduled to open next week at 19th Street and Arctic Ave. The Garrs produced a similar event a couple years ago at Town Center and took it on the road to other cities. Now, they’re bringing it back to Virginia Beach for the summer. A crew started unloading trailers filled with dinosaur parts on Thursday morning and will continue to assemble the outdoor displays this week. Some of the dinosaurs will make sounds and their tails will move. The show opens on Wednesday, June 29, 2022,  and will run daily through Labor Day from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Merchandise and refreshments, including dinosaur popsicles, will be available. Tickets are $17.50; ages 2 and younger can enter for free. Click here for more information.

Virginia Beach Loves Freebee!- If you haven’t yet made the decision to partner with Freebee, please read this! Freebee officials shared the following data and reported an almost unprecedented inaugural run when the micro-transit service went live last week; this data is for the period of 6/17 - 23:

Weekend Events To Celebrate Diversity - Beginning tonight, the air will be buzzing with the sights and sounds of the Latin experience as La Fiesta Virginia Beach begins. This high-energy festival kicks off at 5 p.m. on the 24th Street Stage and continues all day Saturday. La Fiesta Virginia Beach possesses the key ingredients of authentic food, colorful cultural costumes and high-energy national Latin music with Grammy Award nominees and winners headlining concerts each night. Latino and Hispanic food vendors, as well as retail vendors, will round out the festival experience.

The fun continues on Sunday at 24th Street as we close out the weekend with the Second Annual Pride At The Beach party featuring chart-topping musical performers, a DJ and much more. This free family-friendly event runs from 2 - 8 p.m.

At Town Center, it’s always a good time to dine, shop and have fun! This weekend you can choose from a variety of events ranging from a live concert at the Sandler Center or a music festival at “The Z”, to stand up comedy shows featuring local and national acts. Get the scoop on all the Town Center happenings here!

For those interested in the arts, a stroll through the ViBE Creative
District
is a must, as is a short walk to the amazing Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). Currently showing is Maya Lin: A Study of Water, a solo exhibition that brings together a selection of the internationally acclaimed artist’s sculptural interpretations of water spanning several decades. Entry is free and the exhibit runs though Labor Day.

Meetings & Conventions Team Working On the Road To “Bring It To The Beach” - The CVB M&C team has been busy over the past week. Jamie Mitchell had a sales mission to Raleigh where she attended an Association ENC Legislative reception and made sales calls. Dee Mittman was in Atlanta this past week making sales calls and attending MPI of GA’s Awards gala where she was nominated as a supplier extraordinaire! Congratulations, Dee! Amy Overstreet was in DC for a Smart Meetings’ appointment show and met one-on-one with about 12 planners.

My team and I stay committed to you and our industry. Please let me know how we can assist you.
