Dear Valued Tourism Industry Partners,
August snuck up on us rather quickly. As a matter of fact, from my perspective, it feels like the whole summer has been flying by at lightning speed. Time really does fly when you’re having fun. And, it seems, it is not just my imagination!
According to Smith Travel Research, Virginia Beach occupancy rates reached a solid 87% between July 17 and July 23. Add to that some great media coverage in a number of travel and niche market publications, and we’ve been enjoying a pretty great summer, so far. But don’t take my word for it-read on!
“A Guide On Where To Find All The Summer Action In Virginia Beach” by Michele Herrmann, The Travel - Looking for all the summer action in VB? This piece in The Travel includes info on the East Coast Surfing Championship and many other Virginia Beach attractions. The story includes links to many of our districts, neighborhoods, businesses and attractions. Excerpt: “Virginia Beach . . .makes for a great summertime destination because, in addition to having sand and surf, Virginia Beach can accommodate a wide range of interests”.
The 13 Best Beaches in the United States - Writer Jill Schildhoyse wrote a piece for TripSavvy and featured Virginia Beach in the “The 13 Best Beaches in the United States”. Listing Virginia Beach alongside the finest beaches of the West Coast and Hawaii, Schildhouse writes that with this “35-mile stretch is located within a day’s drive of two-thirds of the nation’s population and has a beach for every beachgoer style.”
In an article for the New Jersey Digest, James Barrett features Virginia Beach in “If you love Atlantic City, add these weekend getaways to your list.” Barrett shares that our wide clean beaches offer ample opportunity to soak up the sun or splash in the surf, and make for an enticing weekend visit this summer. He also emphasizes that Virginia Beach is only a half-day’s drive from Atlantic City!
It’s great to hear so much positive feedback from visiting travel writers, bloggers and influencers who share the love for our City far and wide! I hope your summer story is shaping up nicely.
