Festival season in Coastal Virginia is upon us which means tons of outdoor activities for those of us lucky enough to be able to take a breather and get in on some of the action. Read on about both legendary and new events taking place over the next several weeks. 

I’m very pleased to share that the 2021 tourism economic impact study has been completed and will be shared with Virginia Beach City Council by Geoff Lacher of Tourism Economics on Tuesday, Nov. 15.  The following morning, the CVB will hold a breakfast event at the Convention Center where Geoff will repeat his presentation to the public. Virginia MOCA’s 66th Annual Boardwalk Art Show Slated for Oct. 21 - 23  - Ranked as a top 15 Fine Art Show of the Decade by Sunshine Artist magazine, the Boardwalk Art Show is one of the only outdoor art shows produced by an accredited museum and offers a unique experience against the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean. The three day show, which is free and open to the public, will highlight the work of nearly 200 artists from across the country, featuring fine art in several mediums. Find out more information here

Tickets Available for Virginia Aquarium’s Fins & Frights - It is almost time for a devilishly fun family-friendly Halloween event at the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center! Fins & Frights will take place on Oct. 21 and 22 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Dress up in a costume and join the staff for a spook-tacular journey through the Aquarium, hauntingly decked for the occasion. Swing by spooky science stations located throughout the Aquarium, where learning is a frighteningly ghoulish time. Get ready to learn how to turn this wicked holiday into something thrillingly helpful for the planet. Online registration and timed tickets are required due to limited capacity. Find out more here.

Last Call To Register for VTC’s 2022 Partner Orientation Program  -  The Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) free Partner Orientation is a must for Virginia tourism-related business owners, tourism marketers and representatives from Virginia attractions, restaurants, events, retail, and lodging establishments. Receive a brief overview and update from each VTC Division and receive timely ‘Action Items’ to help strategize and plan leveraging VTC resources. The 2022 VTC Orientation offers new information, resources, and best industry practices. Best of all? It’s free! The next sessions are 10/25-27/2022 and registration closes 10/20/22. Virginia Beach JeepFest Set for Nov. 12 - 13 - I’m looking forward to a new event I was thrilled to learn more about recently: Virginia Beach JeepFest. This very unique event, one which was extremely well-received and successful for a nearby destination, will be showcased in our City over a weekend in mid-November. Find out more in an upcoming newsletter about this multifaceted, interactive, and spectator-friendly event which has great promise to become a rousing fall weekend for yet another outdoor adventure market - Jeep and 4x4 enthusiasts!

Hotel Performance for the Week of September 25 - October 1: According to STR, Virginia Beach was within the top 25 performing DMO’s for the week of September 25 – October 1. Virginia Beach’s hotel occupancy rate for this week was up 0.2% at 67.8% occupancy and up 1.9% for the running 28-day trend. ADR was slightly down -1.6% to $149.29 for the week but no current change for the running 28-day trend, at $170.61.  RevPAR was slightly down -1.4% at $101.16 but up 1.9% for the running 28-day trend. In comparison to 2019, we are down in regards to occupancy with a decrease of -1.7% but counter this with an increase in ADR and RevPAR of 18.37% and 14.18% respectively.
