Dear Valued Tourism Industry Partners,
This past year has been one of exciting challenges and impressive strides for the local tourism industry. Virginia Beach is fortunate to continue to see a steady flow of guests return for getaways, business travel, sporting events and the many unique, fun ways there are to discover Virginia Beach.
Tourism growth spurred during these challenging times as you, our valued partners, found creative and innovative ways to do business. I’ve seen the determination in the faces and I’ve been inspired by the resiliency of those with a stake in the local tourism community.
During our fall 2022 State of Tourism event I was immensely proud to announce that, among other impressive data, 11.5 million guests chose to visit Virginia Beach in 2021. These guests were responsible for direct spending of more than two billion dollars, generating a total of $295 million in state and local taxes. This made a powerful impact on our local economy, none of which would be possible without you, our valued local partners. Thank you for all your hard work and for all you do to keep Virginia Beach a legacy destination that families look to return to generation after generation.
The coming year holds so much promise - I can’t recall a time when I’ve been more hopeful for us as an industry and as a city. These are exciting times to be in Virginia Beach and I am thrilled we're on this journey together. 2023 is going to be a year like no other and we can’t wait!
