Virginia Beach Convention Center to Host Virginia Green Travel Awards - Nominations are now open for Virginia Green Travel Star Awards which will be presented at the 2023 Virginia Green Travel Conference held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, March 21-22. Applications for the awards are linked below and are due to DEQ by January 25, 2023. Email completed applications to VirginiaGreen@DEQ.Virginia.gov. Since 2011, Virginia Green has recognized hundreds of Travel Stars and Travel Leaders for their commitments to sustainability and contributions to green tourism in Virginia.

Sports Tourism Activity - This week will be another exciting weekend for sports in Virginia Beach. Things begin at the Sports Center as the 2023 Marlin and Blue Marlin Invitational kicks off today. This one event is expected to bring in over 1,500 collegiate track & field athletes from all over the country. Also taking place at the Sports Center is the 2023 Blizzard Blast. This two-day event is expected to draw an estimated 1,200 volleyball athletes. Teams from West Virginia, North Carolina, and Virginia will battle it out of the volleyball court to claim a championship. Over at Ocean Lakes High School, the 2023 Ocean Lakes Wrestling Invitational will take place as 700 wrestlers battle it out for top honors in their respective weight classes.
Convention Center Activity - After successfully hosting over 9,000 people for the HRADA International car show, the VBCC is excited to welcome the Tidewater RV Show and the Uniquely Yours Bridal Showcase this weekend. Preparations are continuing for various large events coming this spring.
Free Registration For VBHA’s Hospitality Expo - Mark your calendars for Feb. 15 and plan to attend the Coastal Virginia Hospitality Expo 2023 at the Wyndham Hotel at 57th and Atlantic Ave. Everyone is invited to attend and visit with vendors that will be on-site to share their new products and materials. This is a great networking opportunity so register and plan to come and connect with old friends and meet new ones at this fun, informative industry event.

Hotel Performance for the week ofJanuary 1 - 7, 2023: Virginia Beach’s hotel occupancy rate for the week of January 1 – January 7 was up 1% at 33.3% occupancy but down slightly down -5.2% for the running 28-day trend. ADR was up 4.8% at $95.37 for the week and up 2.8% for the running 28-day trend. RevPAR was up 5.9% at $31.79 but slightly down -2.5% for the running 28-day trend. In comparison to January 2019, we are down in occupancy with a decrease of -14.17% but counter this with an increase in ADR and RevPAR of 23.4% and 6.4% respectively.
