We are in for another great week of sports in Virginia Beach as we host three events, welcoming over 2,000 talented athletes to the City. Kicking off the action is the 2023 Summer Bash at the Beach, taking place at the US Field Hockey Training Center. Meanwhile, the 2023 USTA L5 Open Boys & Girls 12's & 18's at the Virginia Beach Tennis Center will set the courts ablaze with intense tennis action. Last, but certainly not least, basketball enthusiasts will be in for a treat with the 2023 VBSC Summer Classic basketball tournament at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Planning for the Future of Hampton Roads - The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization (HRTPO) is updating the region’s Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) to the horizon year 2050. Take a few minutes to share your thoughts on factors that can change the way the region develops, and how we travel to places we live, work and play. Get all the details and take the survey here. Please submit responses by Aug. 15.

Town Center Is Buzzing with Activity- And why not?!  With two world-class performing arts centers, live musical performances, and a picturesque Fountain Plaza, there’s always something exciting happening in the Town Center of Virginia Beach! Get ready to add to your calendar after exploring their upcoming events here.

Accent lighting installed on Atlantic Avenue - A pilot program was run last season on the 2100 block of Atlantic Avenue to test new accent lighting fixtures. Ultimately, this lighting is intended to warm up the area and welcome guests shopping along the 1700-2400 blocks west of Atlantic Avenue. The pilot proved to be a success and lights were ordered to complete installation on the rest of the blocks. These updated lights replaced the older string lights used for many years in this area. The new fixtures are light in weight and wired with LED bulbs which offer a higher efficiency in operation and maintenance. The Public Works Building Maintenance division worked with the City’s entertainment contractor, Beachevents, to design and have the lights fabricated by Mega Light Show, LLC for installation by the REW Corporation.
