LOVE FOR VB
May 30, 2025
Dear Colleagues,
Tomorrow marks the sixth year since the unimaginable tragedy of the mass shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center.
On May 31, 2019, we lost twelve members of our organization to senseless violence. As we pause to remember the lives so cruelly taken, we will remember that each was a cherished individual, a beloved family member, a dear friend, a valued colleague, and a vibrant part of their community. Their loss leaves an indescribable void, as their dreams and futures were tragically cut short. As we grieve, we honor their memories by sharing their stories, the laughter they brought, and the love they shared. We stand in solidarity with their families, offering our deepest condolences and unwavering support, vowing to remember their lives not for how they ended, but for the profound impact they had on all who knew them. Read their individual stories here.
The City of Virginia Beach will hold a Six-Year Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 4 p.m. in the Mary C. Russo Volunteer Recognition Gazebo (located behind City Hall, Building 1) at 2401 Courthouse Drive. Gather and remember those we lost and lift up survivors and all those still healing. An intimate, in-person gathering will take place, and include a moment of silence and reading of names.
There are more ways to remember and honor those we lost. For more information, visit https://loveforvb.com/remembrance/2025-events
