August 8, 2025

Dear Valued Industry Partners,

The calendar may say August, but the good times aren’t slowing down in Virginia Beach! We have yet to enjoy some outstanding performances scheduled throughout August and then we roll into the highly-anticipated month of September. Between the usual change of seasonal weather, our annual visit from the Shriners and all the exciting events surrounding the Neptune Festival, September is going to be an exciting month. Speaking of the Neptune Festival, did you know they host more than 40 events throughout the year? Find out more here and make plans for the whirlwind of events the festival brings for our pleasure.

In August, we are proud to have a diverse lineup of events taking place across the City. From the Summer Soundwave concerts tonight at 24th Street Park and Krendl’s Circus in the Park at 17th Street Park August 9th - 13th, to the Oceanfront movie nights on Thursday through August 21, and Summer Fest at Town Center, these last weeks of the summer season offer something for everyone to enjoy.

An end-of-summer tradition enjoyed by the masses every August is the annual Funk Fest Beach Party! For 15 years, this event has brought funk to the Oceanfront with two days of electrifying music, delectable food, and a diverse array of vendors. This year the event will be staged at 30th Street. Find all the details about this year's show, scheduled for Friday, August 22nd - Saturday, 23rd, including the lineup times and bands scheduled to perform, here.

The very next weekend, we reload for a fantastic Labor Day Weekend of national artists performing at all the Oceanfront park stages; find the full details, including the lineup, here

Thanks for always rolling out the red carpet for our guests, leaving them with a desire to return for more!

The Convention Center opens the Tattoo Festival today. Back for the tenth time this year, the festival features elite artists producing tattoos on the trade show floor and a myriad of creative vendors.  Tomorrow, a book signing for Dr. Gunadhar Panigrahi is taking place from 1pm - 5 pm.  Dr. Panigrahi is a local cardiologist who recently wrote a book titled “Restore Cardiovascular Health with Diabetes Remission & Lifestyle Therapy.” Next Wednesday, the Convention Center will be hosting summer graduation ceremonies for Virginia Beach Public Schools.  Congratulations to all the graduates!

The first week of August is proving to be a very busy one indeed for the Meetings and Convention Sales division. Amy Overstreet conducted a site visit on Monday with one of her state associations and will be meeting with another later this week to hopefully seal the deal on a multi-year opportunity, Meanwhile, this week Dee Mittman is headed to Chicago for a first time corporate appointment tradeshow called Meetings & Incentive Summit. Scott Warren is in West Palm Beach, FL attending a Destinations Southeast appointment show. And Jamie Rawls served as an expert panelist for the Virginia Meeting Planners’ International annual summer event in Portsmouth. She discussed how to best engage with DMO’s like the VBCVB.

The Destination Services Team held a networking event for “National Celebrate Services Week” in the Atlantic Boardroom at the CVB main offices earlier this week. Our hotel partner event service professionals attended the event along with the CVB event service professionals from destination services, sports tourism, and our Convention Center. Great ideas and stories were shared as well as new partner connections made!
